Are you football mad? Will you be addicted to every game in Euro 2012, from the initial qualifier to the tense finals? Well, I have a confession to make. Although I will be supporting our team with gusto, thrilled at each goal and disappointed with each miss, I do have a tendency to daydream a little bit. At least I’m being honest about it, right? One of my favourite daydreaming topics is picturing myself on a picture perfect beach, or strolling up the cobbled streets of some historic town, possibly with a cocktail at the ready.
So with that in mind, I thought I’d offer some of the place I’ll be daydreaming about from Friday.. (in between huge cheers, of course!)
The Greek island of Mykonos, is one of those postcard perfect places. The little whitewashed houses, with blue window frames line narrow cobbled streets and stretch as far as the eye can see. The windmills overlooking the azure waters are the perfect photo opportunity, while the beaches are, well, I can only say, to-die-for. Paradise Beach is almost too awesome for words. Oh to be there right now!My own picture from Mykonos last year. Gorgeous, right?
Prague is definitely a place to visit with your other half, or some good friends. The Czech capital is all kinds of fun, with its bohemian atmosphere, epic beer haunts and friendly people. If you’re after a bit of quirkiness on your holiday, a couple of the museums in Prague are well worth a visit (and a giggle.) If you hate coming home without seeing the sites, Wencelas Square is well worth a visit, but only after you’ve been up close and personal with the castle. It makes for fairytale pictures!
Having visited Croatia during the Athens Olympics, I can confirm they know how to party, so I can only imagine how awesome it’ll be depending on how they do in the competition. Whatever the result, the islands off Split are just perfect. Brac or Hvar are just amazing. Filled with scented pine forests that edge the shingle beach, you’ll find the water there to be so perfect; you’ll never want to get out. Two little bits of advice, some dive shoes make the trip to the beach a little easier and suncream is a must. It gets hot!
ps. Good luck to all the teams taking part and remember “…it’s not the winning but the taking part that counts”
