Hidden Gems in Greece: Addictive Karpathos Island
Tucked away between Rhodes and Crete, Karpathos Island is another hidden paradise in Greece, home to spectacular beaches, perfect blue waters and a completely relaxed atmosphere. And yet, despite a recent rise in popularity, once you arrive it’ll feel like you’re the first person to set foot on this hidden gem in Greece.
Start off with a visit to the award-winning beach of Apella, hidden among green mountains, it’s a tropical setting, in the middle of the Dodecanese.
More beaches within easy reach are Achata, Kyra Panagia and Amopi. However, for expert hikers or explorers there are lots more, including landscapes of more rough nature and beaches with high waves, with Lefkos being the most popular one.
Karparthos is also filled with alleys and traditional tavernas where you still can have a great meal for little money. Among the main attractions of Karpathos is Olympos, one of the oldest villages in Greece. Built in 1420, it retains all of its own traditions, take a step back in time with a visit there.

Other activities Karpathos Island is famous for are windsurfing and snorkelling. Beginner windsurfers can go to the Chicken bay and professional ones to Devil bay. Also, Karpathos is one of the best snorkelling destinations in the Mediterranean. The pebbly west coast attracts a lot of fish and the underwater scene is amazing. What’s more hiking or mountain biking in the pristine nature of the island are great choices too!
