Purple Tips: Best Party Cities Europe 2014

Check out our Purple Travel guide to some of the best parties cities Europe has to offer in 2014. Don’t agree? Let us know in the comments below.

Berlin, Germany. It can be hard to choose from the best party cities Europe 2014, but Berlin is an easy one. A sprawling city where weekends usually start on Thursday evenings and last well into Monday morning, there’s a great selection of cheap hotels and cool bars. House music is easily the most popular and clubs like WaterGate on Falckensteinerstrase 49, Cookies on Friedrichstrase 158 and Weekend on Alexanderstrasse 5 are almost clubbing institutions in Berlin.

Ios Island in Greece. Not technically a city, but Ios easily tops the list of the best places to party in Europe. A longtime backpackers favourite, trust me, it’s worth the ferry trek for hot summer all night parties. Start out in the clean lines of Far Out Beach Bar, before knocking back €1 shots in Orange Bar (the Malteser ones are epic!) Slammers Bar Ios, lives up to its name – you put on a helmet and get whacked in the head with a hammer after a shot, and Sweet Irish Dream only kicks off at 3am. Phew!

Lisbon in Portugal. One of the cheapest cities in Europe also has some of the best nightlife. A more relaxed vibe flows through Lisbon and everyone is invited! All night parties rage in Bairro Alto where almost every house has a bar in its basement. Grab some cheap beers from a kisok and get friendly with the locals on Lisbon’s best night out: Thursday.

Budapest in Hungary. Cheap booze is something of a speciality in the Hungarian capital. An up and coming city break, Hungary’s Ruin Bar scene is something to see. Old abandoned buildings are transformed into semi-functioning bars. Usually open air, in the middle of parks, with old bits of furniture and fairy lights all adding to the atmosphere.

Split in Croatia. When I was doing this list and thought of Croatia it was a duh! moment. There are great value flights from the UK, and there’s a big focus on festivals and drawing in lots of people. That means lots of competition and lots of choice! Partying in Croatia is all about bikinis, beaches, beautiful people and loads of booze. Get some sleep now, ‘cause you’ll need it before going splitting to Split.

Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Famous for its open minded atmosphere, it’s still possible to get a decent cheap holiday to Amsterdam. The big squares at Leidseplin and Rembrandt offer an alternative to sitting with your friends stoned out of your mind in a café. Of course, it being Amsterdam, there’re always more than meets the eye. I’ll just let your imagination go on that one.

Ayia Napa in Cyprus. A traditional clubbing holiday calls for the experts and everyone in Ayia Napa could be considered that. It’s a clubbing heaven! First up, hit the square where the drinks promos mean you’ll be able to start early. There are 12 clubs to choose from offering up to the gods of dance, urban and parting. Club Ice is one of the biggest club and invited TOWIE and Geordie Shore celebs last year, while newly refurbished Makronissos Beach Club is the kind of place where you go early in the day and never leave.

Magaluf, Majorca. The original and (one of the) best party holidays, Magaluf could easily top our picks of the best party cities Europe 2014. Half hearted partyers need not apply for nights where pints are less than £2, shots are cheaper and BCM is open all night long. For cheap hotels in Magaluf we like TRH Palmanova, the Hi! Honolulu, Hotel Sol Magaluf or the HSM Don Juan Hotels to be close to the action.

Riga, Latvia. Some of the cheapest and best party cities Europe 2014 are ones you might never even think of! The Latvian Capital is a super cheap place to go drinking and its clubs and pubs make it a top choice for a stag or hen do.  Orange Bar and the amusingly named PuPu bar should feature high on your agenda.
