Purple Tips: Couples Resorts

With Valentine’s looming, it’s time to start planning some romantic moments with your partner. We’ve picked out the most romantic couples resorts, the perfect spots to say I Love You (or even pop the question as the case may be).

valentines

Santorini, Greece

The Greek islands are popular couples resorts with tourists from all over the world. However, while each has its own attraction, on islands such as Mykonos and parts of Crete, couples may find that hedonism replaces romance. For an environment more catered to those in love, Santorini is the ideal choice. With hotels and restaurants scaling the cliffs that overlook the Aegean Sea, its views are nothing short of incredible.  We recommend Andronis Luxury Suites for a dreamy escape, with views of the island’s caldera from each suite in the multi-villa resort. Couples can sunbathe on the black, red and white sand beaches and enjoy its ancient villages with their traditional tavernas. However, the best couple’s activity in Santorini has to be the thermal baths, a.k.a nature’s massage. You can enjoy this activity together and benefit from the healing properties of the water, which rises from the island’s hot springs.

Paris, France

Paris may be an obvious choice, but there is much more to this romantic city than just its clichés.  Yes you can still kiss under the Eiffel Tower or propose on a bridge that overlooks the Seine, but you should also aim to explore the less-visited neighbourhoods of the city. These are often covered with cobblestones, lined with the types of cafes and shops that only exist in Paris and sprinkled with park benches that beckon couples to holds hands, kiss and fall in love.

Venice, Italy

One of the most beautiful places in the world and Italy’s most romantic city, Venice was pretty much made for couples. From gondola rides along the canals to awe-inspiring architecture, Venice is a theatre showing love’s favourite scenes. Its food could make almost anyone say the L-word – just picture the two of you at either ends of a string of spaghetti with the sounds of classic Italian songs in the background. Lady and The Tramp eat your heart out.

Prague, Czech Republic

Known as the heart of Europe, it’s no surprise that Prague is a city of love. Home to a fascinating medley of past and present architectural triumphs, Prague Castle, the largest ancient castle in the world, is a home-from-home for hopeless romantics. And, if you’re looking for an original spot for a proposal, the Petrinska rozhledna, a 60-meter-high observation tower built to resemble to the Eiffel Tower, is a top choice.

Casablanca, Morocco

Thanks to the classic film of the same name, Casablanca is a city filled with romance. As you walk through the vibrant, bustling markets of the Old Medina, and admire the stunning architectural remnants from the city’s history as a French protectorate, you’ll begin to see why. Enjoy a Hollywood moment of your own in the Habous neighbourhood, just a 15-minute drive away and featuring elegant arches and whitewashed buildings.

Get Inspired: Infographic, Why We Love Greece

Greece is a vast landscape of diverse experiences waiting to be discovered. Each of the Greek islands have their own quirks and contrasts, but all are equally stunning and the beaches spectacular. But the real reasons that we love this popular tourist destination are a little less obvious and only become known to  a traveller after they’ve experienced true life in Greece.

Have a look at our infographic with some unusual facts about this fascinating country:

In essence, it’s the idiosyncrasies that we love the most. Here are just a couple of reasons why we love Greece.

The fact that they would rather have a coffee than do pretty much anything else in the world. If you thought that you liked coffee, speak to a Greek and you’ll feel like a total amateur. Frappes are like heroin for the Greek society. A combination of Nescafe, water, condensed milk and a boatload of sugar and ice, the chemical buzz they inflict is almost scary.

Imagine the warm breeze blowing through your hair as you speed to the beach… Mopeds represent a youthful freedom in Greece.  As terrifying as they are invigorating, don’t expect to see the Greeks wearing helmets (ever) or even footwear for that matter. Who says you can’t ride a motorbike in your flip-flops?

The Greeks also love their balconies. Aside from in cafes, they will mostly be seen drinking their frappes at a blue-white table, on a balcony that overlooks the sea. But with such great weather almost all year round – who can blame them?

Whether it’s souvlaki, moussaka or just a Greek salad, you have to admit that Greek food is some of the best in the world (and the cheapest). The seafood is fresh, the vegetables are locally sourced and the plates double as smashing material when cleared. Hurrah!

Rapidly spinning them around their fingers, the men of Greece have used worry beads to combat their stress for centuries. You’ll find them outside most souvenir shops, or for something more luxurious, try Kombologadiko, where the beads are made from semi-precious stones.

Greek women areCITRUS SHOWERGEL 250ml known for their impeccable skin, and this is generally due to an old quote that has been passed down through generations – “Never put anything on your face that you cannot eat or taste.” For this reason brands such as Korres and Apivita have become extremely successful, containing 85-100% natural ingredients. Their ingredients are not tested on animals and the materials used are kind to the environment.

Basically, when in Greece, you’ll find all sorts of comical and beautiful sights, not to mention delicious tastes, memorable smells of the ocean and a hospitality so warm you can almost feel it.

Cool Cocktails

One thing that is top of our list every summer is a tropical cocktail on our holidays. We decided to put our heads together to figure out some of the best places to go for cocktails in the sun this year. It’s a tough thing to get that perfect mix of a nicely mixed drink, the right atmosphere, brilliant weather and of course a chatty barman helps!

So, here’s ours, don’t forget to share yours…

Everyone’s heard of sangria right? Well what better place to enjoy a glass of this gorgeous chilled red wine (we know, it sounds a bit odd!) than in the glorious setting of Spain’s Puerto Banus. By adding some red wine, the freshest choice fruit, a little sugar and brandy you have the perfect recipe for a great evening cocktail. It’s the best tipple to get your night started.

After a hard day’s work soaking up the sunshine on the beach, we think a margarita is one of the best ways to unwind in the fantastic resort of Cancun in Mexico. A drop of tequila, triple sec and some lemon or lime juice will quench your thirst and cool you down and the glorious surroundings will make it ten times better.

The Maldives is the place to go to enjoy a simply breathtaking sunset with a mai tai in hand. Marvel as the stars begin to glisten in the sky and relax with the gentle lapping of the waves around you. Even after a few cool cocktails you will not forget your holiday to this amazing archipelago.

There is only one cocktail we could possibly recommend in NYC. You need to find a manhattan in Manhattan. It’s a legendary cocktail for a legendary city. After seeing the Empire State, taking in a show and maybe meeting the locals, there’s no better nightcap in The Big Apple.

Santorini is one of the most romantic of the Greek islands and is home to one of the most legendary sunsets in the world. A caiprinha is our choice, even if it’s not as authentic as ouzo, it has a certain summery charm to it. Grab your other half and head for the highest point you can find in between the blue domed houses and settle in for a serious show.

In Cuba it has to be a mojito and it has to be after a walk along the Malecón in Cuba’s historic capital of Havana. Surround yourself with the unbelievable atmosphere, listen to some Latin tunes and discover your Cuban spirit in this amazing city.

Those are our top choices for a cocktail holiday this summer. As always we want to know what you think. Send your suggestions our way so maybe we can try them out too!
